A resounding success." This is how one can sum up the public event staged last Wednesday, May 3, in Bellinzona that was attended by more than 150 people, including experts in the field and members of civil society. Theme of the evening: "Immunity and Vaccines, from Cancer to Covid-19."
Bellinzona, May 3, 2023 - The 2023 Conference, held again in presence (after the pandemic), was organized for the first time under the umbrella of the Bellinzona Institutes of Science Association (Bios+), which brings together the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) and the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR), both affiliated with the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI).
For the occasion, guests were able to listen to and dialogue with Alberto Mantovani, Professor Emeritus of Humanitas University, Scientific Director of the Humanitas Clinical Institute and member of the Bios+ Advisory Board. Professor Mantovani is an internationally renowned researcher and immunologist and is considered one of the most highly regarded science communicators in Italy.
The lecture is named after the Castelgrande, a symbol of the city of Bellinzona, which is continuously being strengthened as a research hub in the field of biomedicine. The Bios+ Association aims to represent and promote the growth of this pole of national and international significance.
"Listening to Prof. Mantovani, I felt on my skin an almost youthful energy and a desire to actively contribute, through research activity, to the development of knowledge within society," notes Bios+ President Gabriele Gendotti, who adds, "I like to remember an old slogan of our National Research Fund: research generates knowledge and knowledge is the key to the future."
Finally, our thanks go to our supporters - City of Bellinzona and Banca Stato - as well as to the event's technical partner - Emme SA - for their support shown in favor of scientific research carried out.
