Doctor Honoris Causa title conferred on Prof. Federica Sallusto

Bellinzona, Nov. 17, 2022 – During the Dies Academicus, the University of Fribourg conferred to Prof. Federica Sallusto the title Doctor honoris causa (Dr. h. c.) for her excellence in scientific and professional work.

The University of Fribourg has awarded Federica Sallusto, group leader at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) and professor at the University della Svizzera italiana (USI) and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zürich), the title of Doctor honoris causa in Biomedical Sciences for her many substantial and innovative contributions to the field of immunology.

Federica Sallusto received her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Rome and went on to postdoctoral training at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Rome and at the Basel Institute for Immunology, where she was a member from 1997 to 2000, and then moved to the IRB, affiliated to USI, in Bellinzona to direct the Laboratory of Cellular Immunology. There she also founded the Center for Medical Immunology. Since 2017, she has been Full Professor of Medical Immunology at the ETH Zürich and the USI, in the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences. Prof. Sallusto’s professorship was established through a generous donation from the Helmut Horten Foundation.

This title further confirms Federica Sallusto’s scientific achievements, which have already been widely recognized by numerous awards and prestigious appointments, including, most recently, as a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, one of the most significant and highest honors bestowed on academic researchers.
